NEW GEO-TECH RUNWAY
From Safety Officer Jim

I'm sure the majority of you have seen and used the new geo runway and experienced the changes in the field layout.

These changes were minor but are worth looking at a little more closely.

The new geo runway is 7 feet wider and 50 feet shorter than the old strip. It's the same small taxiway as before.   A dashed white centerline has been added with runway compass numbers for added realism. The white centerline is very helpful in maintaining a straight line when taking off.

The runway is now closer to the pits, the spectators and the shelter house.   Extra caution must be taken when flying and or taxiing

Field Rules have been in place for many years concerning where pilots can fly and where pilots can taxi.  There are no rules being added.  However, with the 4th of July picnic coming up, I thought it would be prudent to point out a few of the field changes and to go over the existing (for the past 20 years or more) field rules.

In addition to the runway changes, a set of orange pylons has been added at the extreme ends of the pilot station line. (See attached map.)  These pylons serve two functions in that they delineate the boundary of the pits and show the flightline. .

1.  Flying and taxiing on the field side of the pylons is appropriate.

2.
No taxiing or flying on the pit side of the pylons. Please shut your aircraft down at the flight line and move it by hand to your pit area. Taxiing to your pit area is not allowed.

Please note that you are permitted to taxi OUT from your pit area in a straight line perpendicular to the flying field.
There is NO taxiing inside the pits after a flight or taxiing parallel to the flightline behind the pilots. To sum it all up, just remember that there is no taxiing in the pit area or to the tables.  Once you get to the field side of the flightline, taxi away!  Once you get to the pit side of the flightline--engines/motors off and you drag or carry your aircraft to where you are pitting.

Also, when taking off right to left please pay attention to your aircraft's flight path. Planes have a tendency to turn left after take off which puts them in a possible collision course with the shelter house.  Our 4th July Picnic is coming Saturday July 1, 2023, and I suspect we will have many flyers at this event. It is just common courtesy that we all follow the field flight and safety rules.  This way, all of us can enjoy the field.

If you have any concerns or comments about the new runway, the pylons or the field safety rules, please contact Safety Officers Mike Morgan or Jim Dalton.

Thank you,
Jim

And from President  Bruce:

It is a blessing to fly at our beautiful field.  With blessing comes responsibility.  I'm sure we can all easily abide by these rules that have been in place since I've been a member (22 years!).  They only serve to maintain our enjoyment and our safety.  Again, this is nothing new but we've gotten a little lax, including myself.

We can do this.  Or, as the Bible says, "
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds."

All the best,
Bruce
